Winter is high season for the Reykjavik cultural scene - a great variety of museum exhibitions, concerts and theatre shows are on offer. Go horse riding through lava fields and try out the unique fifth gait of the sturdy Icelandic horse, called tölt.
“Symbol of the Icelandic Consciousness”, is in a rift valley between the American and European geological plates and Lake Thingvellir contains species of fish found nowhere else. There has been a church at the site of Thingvellir since the introduction of Christianity but the church that stands there now was built in 1859.
The first geyser erupted in Iceland in 14th century. Watching a geyser erupt, even a small one, is a fascinating sight. First, the water starts to boil, then very quickly a bubble forms and bursts as the steam, hotter and lighter than the boiling water, forces its way skywards.
It is breathtakingly beautiful, 33 metres high, with two steps, the first one is 11 metres high, and the other one is 22 metres high and they fall into the 2,5 km canyon. Gullfoss actually means the Golden waterfall (gull-gold, foss-waterfall). The recent history of the waterfall is quite interesting and startling.
The capital of the north Group arrives in the day and on the way to hotel from airport, we stop at the Blue Lagoon for 2-3 hours. The Geothermal pools helps you get relaxed after the flight. You can enjoy shopping at the Blue Lagoons stores which has Icelandic clothes and great skin-care products. Drive to Reykjavík for the night stay with some sightseeing on the way. Enjoy the “night light capital” of Europe.
Golden Circle Champion picks up the group in the morning. We head for the Golden Circle and from there we head to the Majestic waterfall, Seljalandsfoss in the south of Iceland. At night we stay close to the town Hella, to explore the Northern Lights. We stay overnight at one of the finest hotel in the world to view northern lights.
The group goes back and explores the capital of the north. There are plenty of places to visit in Reykjavik, they can also take a walk around the city for shopping. The troop flies back home with the sweet memories of Iceland.
